The Director of the Anglo Japanese Textile Research Centre was awarded an MBE for her services to Higher Education.

Professor Millar, who lives in Cranbrook, Kent, said: "I am absolutely delighted to receive this award. I certainly did not expect it and feel totally overwhelmed and grateful.

"The fact that it is the Queen’s Birthday Honours list somehow makes it feel more personal and doubly special.

"It is a wonderful validation of the work and philosophy at UCA that the Vice-Chancellor and I have both been honoured by the Queen, especially at this time of stress for universities and the Higher Education sector."

Professor Millar has been a practising weaver since 1975. Her work is in the permanent collections of both The Crafts Council and Arts Council England and is listed on the Crafts Council Index of Selected Makers. She has exhibited throughout the UK, in Europe, the USA and Japan.

In 2007 she was appointed Professor of Textile Culture at UCA and in 2008 received the Japan Society Award for significant contribution to Anglo-Japanese relationships.
