How should we treat the other animals with who we share our homes, cities and environments? Why do we have such a wide diversity of relationships with them? And are those relationships consistent with recent advancements in our knowledge of the remarkable array of cognitive, social and communicative capacities many animals possess?

The University of Winchester is launching Winchester’s new Centre for Animal Welfare on Saturday 21st May. The Centre is an interdisciplinary centre which undertakes research, teaching and public engagement in animal welfare and related fields. We offer undergraduate, masters and PhD level studies, and in addition to traditional research and knowledge dissemination, the centre also seeks to engage with wider society, to increase knowledge and understanding about animal welfare.

Guest speakers Peter Egan  and Heather Mills  have both spent many years supporting animal welfare campaigns, and will share their fascinating stories at the beautiful West Downs campus in the historic city of Winchester, just one hour from London by train.

The launch will take place on Sat 21 May at 6 pm. For more information about the event please see the University of Winchester’s website here.
