The School of Agriculture, Food and Environment at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU), in partnership with Thames Water, is pleased to offer one PhD Programme and one MSc by Research Studentship.

The research will explore ‘Investigations into the effectiveness of swale design in metaldehyde capture’. It will be overseen by Professor David Hopkins, Dean of SAFE and Director of Research, Dr Ian Grange, Senior Lecturer in Environment and Countryside Management, and Tom Overbury, RAU Farms Director.

For the PhD programme, applicants should hold a Master’s degree or a first class or upper second class Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant science subject; such as soil science, earth science, geochemistry, or environmental management. Applicants with, or who soon expect to gain, a relevant MSc qualification are also welcome to apply.

For the MSc by Research programme, applicants should hold a minimum of an upper second class UK Honours degree in a relevant science subject; such as soil science, earth science, geochemistry, or environmental management.

The PhD and MSc by Research Studentships are fully funded (fees + stipend of £12,000 each). Due to restrictions on the funding they are only open to candidates from the UK/EU.

Informal enquiries can be made to Professor David Hopkins via david.hopkins@rau.ac.uk.

Formal applications for the PhD or MSc by Research must be submitted online.

Applications can be accepted at any time, but it is anticipated that the programmes will start as soon as possible. An initial consideration of applications will be conducted on 22 July 2016, and the opportunity will close once suitable candidates have been identified.
