Zandra Rhodes is amongst the most famous and recognisable names in British fashion and has played a key role over the last fifty years in establishing the country’s prominent position in the international fashion industry and fashion education. This University for the Creative Arts and JISC co-funded project pilots an Open Educational Resource based on the initial digitisation of 500 of the fashion designer’s most iconic and landmark pieces. The collection will cover the entire period of her creative career to date: from the design of haute couture dresses for clients as diverse as Diana, Princess of Wales, Elizabeth Taylor and Freddie Mercury, to the more recent work for Anne, Princess Royal, Helen Mirren and her costume designs for opera. Known for her creativity and innovation, this online study collection will promote inspiration and educational opportunities for emergent and future generations of fashion and textile designers, and will provide researchers with free global access to this invaluable cultural repository and fashion heritage.
