REF 2029 has announced the membership of the People, Culture and Environment pilot panels and we are delighted to see that GuildHE members are well represented. Rachel, Head of Research Policy at GuildHE said:
“GuildHE extends our warmest congratulations to staff from our member institutions that have been placed on a pilot panel for REF 2029. It is essential that a diversity of institutions are represented amongst the panels, and the funders have worked hard to achieve this. Such diversity of perspectives will be important to ensure that the PCE element of REF 2029 is developed in ways that are sympathetic to different institutional scales and disciplinary mix. We are pleased to see our members support colleagues to contribute to that and recognise their commitment to improving research culture across the sector that their involvement represents.”
REF 2029 will deliver an expanded definition of research excellence, recognising the wide range of research, roles, and people that are essential to the vitality of the UK’s vibrant research system.
A key part of this expanded definition is the development of the People, Culture and Environment (PCE) element. Announced in January 2024, the PCE pilot exercise aims to use the findings from the PCE indicators project to explore the practicality of submission and assessment of various elements of PCE. This assessment will be carried out by the PCE pilot panels.
