The National Centre for the Study and Prevention of Violence and Abuse is pleased to announce its first annual conference, ‘Violence and Abuse: Cross Cutting Issues’, on Wednesday 17th June, University of Worcester.
The NCSPVA invites those interested in presenting a paper or poster at the conference to submit an abstract for consideration.
As an interdisciplinary and inter-professional centre, the NCSPVA extends this invitation to all stakeholders including academics; students; researchers; law and policy makers; professionals from voluntary organisations and statutory agencies; those from the corporate sector and educational establishments; and service users.
Submissions can be related to completed or ongoing research, changes in law and policy, good practice models of support and intervention for (‘victims and/or perpetrators’) and the importance of the service user/survivor voice. Submissions should be clear about how the proposed paper or poster focuses on a discrete type of violence or abuse or how violence and abuse can be cross cutting in nature or impact.
Discrete types of abuse include but are not exhaustive of:
- Domestic abuse
- Sexual violence
- Harmful traditional practices
- Trafficking
- Gang related violence
- Bullying and harassment
- Hate crime
- Work based violence
- Community based violence
- Substance misuse related violence/abuse
- Violence between and against children and young people
- Violence/abuse in conflict
- Stalking and harassment
- Technology based violence/abuse i.e. cyber abuse
The conference strands into which submissions should fit are:
- Diverse populations (gender, age, ethnicity, class, sexuality, disability etc.)
- Interventions (support , protection and prevention)
- The service user voice (victims/survivors and perpetrators)
Deadlines for submissions: 30th April 2015.
Submissions should be sent to Louise Williams (l.williams@worc.ac.uk) no later than 5pm.
Submissions should include:
- a) The title of the proposed paper/poster
- b) Type of presentation (paper or poster)
- c) Abstract (maximum 1000 words)
- d) Conference strand (can be more than one)
- e) Author(s) details (full name, title, place of work/study if applicable and brief biography –maximum 200 words)
- f) Author(s) contact details
Selected Papers for Conference Presentation
Abstracts will be reviewed by a panel of staff from the University of Worcester. The decision made by the panel is indisputable.
Announcement of selected abstracts will be made by 15th May 2015
Guidance for Poster presentations will be forwarded to the Authors of successful submissions.
