The Universities Week report, Supporting a UK Success Story: The Impact of University Research and Sport Development, spotlights research undertaken at St Mary’s University College Twickenham, Bucks New University and the University of Cumbria.

A PhD student at St Mary’s University College has undertaken research in partnership with the University of Northumbria into the role cherry juice plays in increasing the total antioxidative capacity and recovered muscle function of marathon runners. Through Active Universities, Bucks New University has received funding from Sport England for work on their ‘Rush’ hockey programme. Nicola Relph, a lecturer at the University of Cumbria, is working on biomechanical analysis for 10 metre platform divers looking to improve their most difficult dives.
