The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) today announced its funding allocations for the 2012-13 academic year.

GuildHE CEO, Andy Westwood, said:

“GuildHE welcomes HEFCE’s efforts at smoothing the transition from the old to the new system of higher education funding. As long as student demand holds up then individual institutions should be able to manage that transition. However, the continuing uncertainty over student numbers – including AAB and core and margin – make that a more challenging task.

“There is also a cumulative impact of changing research and innovation policies that is hitting some small and specialist institutions hard. This may lead to damaging effects in key economic sectors and clusters and a loss of capacity and infrastructure in the institutions themselves.”
