Experts in survey technology will assemble at the University of Winchester to discuss the merits of the latest innovations in digital research methods between 6-7 September.

The conference, Making Sense of New Research Technologies, has been organised by the Association for Survey Computing (ASC), in partnership with the University’s Faculty of Business, Law and Sport.

The ASC is the world’s leading society for the advancement of knowledge in software and technology for research surveys and statistics. Up to 150 members from across Europe and North America are expected to attend the two day event starting on Friday 6 September.

“Digital tools have become an essential part of the research repertoire,” said Professor David Birks, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Law and Sport and ASC Conference Chair. “No longer can we look at them as new techniques – they now shape traditional and emerging research.

“The University of Winchester is proud to be hosting a conference that will showcase the cutting edge of best practice.”

Speakers will explore recent developments and current thinking in data visualisation, text analysis and the gamification of surveys, using their practical experience from the spheres of market research, public and social, and academic research.

Delegates will hear three keynote presentations: Data Visualisation – Storytelling by numbers by Tobias Sturt and Adam Frost from the The GuardianText analysis – Machine Learning and Automatic Text Classification: What’s Next? by Fabrizio Sebastiani from National Council of Research, Italy; and Gamification – Rewarding the Truth by Jon Puleston from GMI Interactive.

The ASC Making Sense of New Research Technologies conference will be held at Winchester Business School, West Downs, University of Winchester, Romsey Road, Winchester SO22 5NR from Friday 6 to Saturday 7 September. For further information please visit www.winchester.ac.uk/events
