The Blackness in Britain conference will bring together graduates, early career and established academics who are engaged in the essential work of researching the past, present and future condition of the Black population in Britain.

Over 170 delegates have registered for this unique event, which is taking place at Newman University on Thursday 12 September 9.30am-5.30pm.

The conference keynote speakers are Dr Tracey Reynolds from London South Bank University, Dr Robert Beckford from Canterbury Christ Church University and Dr Anthony Reddie from Aston University.

We have over 40 diverse research papers covering a number of themes including the emergence of the ‘New Black ‘Social Conservatives’, ‘The Politics of Black Women’s Health in the UK’, ‘The Impact of Public Spending Cuts on Black People in Contemporary Britain’ as well as the ‘Role of Hip Hop and Dancehall in Regulating and Influencing Young Black British Women’s Sense of Self’.

Blackness in Britain promises to be interesting, challenging and engaging and will provide a space to highlight the most current research activity in this field. We hope that this will be the first conference of many and build a network of Black academics in the UK.
