What is research impact? An Introduction
Date: 2nd February 2017
Time: 13:00 – 14:00
Engagement and Impact are key terms in the growing impact agenda. Now with engagement and impact included in ERA 2018 and the ERA pilot underway and the HEFCE consultation underway for REEF 2020, understanding what impact is and how it can be articulated is fundamental for successful submissions.
This one-hour intensive session is aimed at supporting those new to research impact. Using our experience of writing impact case studies, delivering training on impact to hundreds of researchers and research administrators, and having developed the VV-Impact Tracker tool, the training we offer is comprehensive and up-to-date with reporting guidelines.
What makes a good impact case study

Securing engagement for impact data capture
Date: 14th March 2017
Time: 12:00-13:00
Capturing research impact is of growing importance with more funders asking for this information than ever before, not only in the UK but as a global trend. Being able to capture impact throughout a project’s lifecyle is key to having high quality impact data and evidence, as well as ensuring it is time efficient for researchers and managers. As such most UK universities are implementing some form of impact data capture system.
This one-hour intensive session is aimed at those interested to learn more about how to successfully engage their academic staff with capturing their impact. Having worked with many universities since July 2014 to implement and roll out VV-Impact Tracker, and supported engagement initiatives at a breadth of organisations, this session will share experiences of what has worked well, lessons learned and crucial activities, to ensure high quality impact information is captured. This session will utilise these reflections and learnings to share insight for those currently looking to implement an impact capture system.
