Here are the results for Stage 1 of the ‘Consortia-based approach to integrated research data management systems’ project involving CREST small and specialist institutions and a variety of partners, all of whom worked very hard and were incredibly diligent in achieving all of the deliverables in just 3 months.
Project Report and CREST RDMS Survey (Appendix A)
Lead: Dr Alisa Miller, CREST
This report provides an overview of the project and its origins and contexts, and provides a summary of the results of the CREST RDMS survey of Heads of Research. This has then been used to inform the case studies developed over the course of the project, and to pin down a series of broader sector-orientated recommendations and open questions, as well as an outline of future plans for building and maintaining a consortia-based open source and commercial systems.
Case Study 1: A consortial approach to RDMS: A streamlined commercial option (Pure: Elsevier)
Leads: Mark Joyce and Helen Morris, Leeds Trinity University
This case study details the processes and outcomes of taking a streamlined approach to implementing an RDMS.
Case Study 2: Working with Eprints to implement an open source approach to RDM in the visual arts
Lead: Carlos Silva, University for the Creative Arts
This case study looks at how the RDIVA group of specialist Art, Media, Design and Performing Arts HEIs have approached updating Eprints as the disciplines work to pin down the relationships and interface between visually-orientated, practice based research data and outputs.
Case Study 3: RDM workflows and integrations for HEIs using hosted services
Lead: Matthew Addis, Arkivum and Rory McNicholl & Timothy Miles-Board, ULCC
This report investigates some of the workflows and processes involved in Research Data Management (RDM). The report takes a case-study approach and looks at what workflows are currently supported in institutions, where there are gaps, and where workflows could be improved. The report contains practical examples of how RDM workflows are implemented and supported including where they are used to integrate RDM systems and
tools. The aim is to help identify which workflows need to be supported in a consortial RDM shared-service that would meet the needs of small and specialist institutions.
