Buckinghamshire New University’s Faculty of Society & Health is delighted to announce that its unique Service Improvement Research and Evaluation Partnerships (SIREP) programme will now be much more accessible for health care and social care providers following the launch of a dedicated interactive online facility at www.sirep.co.uk.

Funded by the Higher Education Academy in 2012 for the first 18 months, the aim of the SIREP project is to match postgraduate nursing students in mental health, adult areas and child protection with a range of ‘host’ health and social care organisations to undertake their final project.

High-profile organisations which have taken part in the first SIREP programme include the Buckinghamshire Healthcare, Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL), Imperial NHS Trust, Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Children Board and from the charity sector,  Barnardo’s R-U-Safe amongst others.

SIREP, which is now in its second cycle, is designed to strengthen student employability as well as provide tangible benefits to host service providers by injecting fresh thinking and innovation to improve care or propose re-design in a specific service area. Host organisations are then able, but not obliged, to implement recommendations from the students’ completed projects.

Ruth Clemow, Head of School for Social Sciences and Education, said: “The new interactive web-based facility will enable students and SIREP staff sponsors at Bucks New University to engage remotely and broker engagement with live service improvement projects to the benefit of providers and the people they serve, whilst enabling students to enhance their employability.

“Drawing in a wide range of organisations from health care providers including NHS, private providers and voluntary organisations, as well as local authorities and charities in the social care sector will provide students with the opportunity to undertake final projects in a setting compatible to their area of specialist study.”

Students studying Criminology, Psychology and other undergraduate programmes in the School of Social Sciences at Bucks New University are set to join the SIREP programme in the future.
