The British Library is a crucial source of news and media content across all formats. The vast newspaper collections cover national and local press of all kinds. The library is also archiving websites about significant events, to ensure that these vital sources are not lost. In the Reading Rooms you can access hundreds of thousands of TV and radio programmes, including all news broadcast in the UK over the last two years.

The British Library Doctoral Open Days are a chance for new PhD students to discover the British Library’s unique research materials. At this event you will learn about the news and media collections, find out how to access them, and meet expert staff and other researchers in your field. The events are solely for first year PhD students who are new to the Library. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

To make the most of your day, you may wish to get a free Reader Pass before the event.

A small number of £20 travel bursaries are available for students coming from outside Greater London. Email the Higher Education team at the British Library to apply.
