The Head of the University of Worcester’s Institute of Health and Society has been appointed to an important external role.

Dr Jan Quallington has been elected as the Chair for the West Midlands Deans Health Group.

The Council of Deans of Health is the representative voice of UK university health faculties providing education and research for healthcare professionals.

The Council plays an influential leadership role in improving health outcomes through its development of an expert health professional workforce. It utilises its collective expertise to inform innovative educational practice and research.

Dr Quallington qualified as a nurse in the 1980s and has been lecturing at the University of Worcester since 1995. Her research work specialises in the field of medical ethics and care practice and she has been a key contributor to the University’s contribution to national and international discussions and policy debates in these areas.

She said: “It’s a privilege to take on this role. I hope that I can play a valuable role in developing health care in the UK through this appointment.”

The group is influential in interpreting, implementing and shaping Government policy around health care education and service delivery. The group also plays a key role in advising Vice Chancellors regarding health issues and university responses.
