The University for the Creative Art’s (UCA) Professor of Modern Craft, Simon Olding, has been made Patron of Stroud International Textiles (SIT).

In his role of Patron, Professor Simon Olding will be working with SIT to help promote contemporary textiles to a wider audience through the means of the highly-regarded and innovative specialist festival SIT Select. He will also act as an advocate for SIT both nationally and in the South West.

SIT’s aim is to celebrate all contemporary applied arts whilst linking to traditional textile culture; broadening the perspective of textile arts and crafts to other art forms such as performance, dance, music, written word

Professor Simon Olding joins an illustrious group of fellow SIT Patrons including Mary La Trobe Bateman OBE, Lulu Guinness OBE, Jilly Edwards and Linda Brassington, Senior Lecturer of Printed Textiles at UCA Farnham.

Professor Simon Olding said: “I am a long-standing supporter of this important and always energising event in the textile calendar, and I hope, through this role, to join my fellow patrons to celebrate the vitality and significance of contemporary textiles and to encourage the development of new audiences, both in Stroud and the wider South West”.
