The Higher Education Academy Discipline Workshop and Seminar Series

This workshop brings staff and students together in order to explore notions of research and scholarship in art & design; to discuss their relevance to the curriculum; highlight the knowledge transfer between practitioners and students and vice versa; and to develop ideas for materials to support and facilitate undergraduate research.

Leeds College of Art has a burgeoning practice–based research culture that seeks to be relevant to, and integrated with, the student learning experience. This workshop seeks to draw in ideas from the sector

on good practice in research informed teaching and will look simultaneously at the relationships between practitioner-teachers and student-researchers.

This workshop brings staff and students together in order to explore notions of research and scholarship in art & design and to identify where in the art and design curriculum the key principles and methodologies associated with practice-based research are taught or facilitated.

Beginning with a research dissemination seminar during which members of staff will present their practice-based research to colleagues and students attending the workshop will look to distil from the presentations, and their own experiences, the links between staff practice and what is taught in the studio as well as how it is taught. Working together staff and students will identify key principles and methodologies relevant to teaching and learning that is underpinned by research.
