Prof Schwarz took up her prestigous Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship examining the early history of Sierra Leone at the start of 2012, which will also feed in to her teaching on the history of the subject, with particular links to how school teachers present the history of slavery in classrooms in Africa, the United States and Great Britain. Prof Schwarz has published a number of books on the subject, and works closely with museums and heritage organisations, including supporting an international project to preserve the Public Archives in Sierra Leone.

Prof Schwarz’s work is discussed in the University of Worcester’s Spring 2012 publication of Inspire magazine, alongside research into sustainable development in Africa, plant pathogens, immersive environments and science education, touch screen technology and dementia, twentieth century fashion and the launch of the European Basketball Research Centre.
