Dr Alisa Miller, who serves as both Policy Officer (Research & Innovation) at GuildHE and Research Network Coordinator for the Consortium for Research Excellence, Support and Training (CREST), is profiled in Mark Leach’s Times Higher Education Supplement article, ‘Who let them in?’, discussing the rise of the HE ‘policy wonk’.

Dr Miller highlighted the varied nature of her position: working with Heads of Institutions and Research to devise the most effective strategies related to research and innovation policy; talking to researchers and students about their work and needs; coordinating bids, planning interdisciplinary research and training seminars and managing communication plaftforms as CREST Research Network Coordinator; and finally, maintaining her profile as an active researcher.

She noted that mostly her job entails ‘listening’, and stressed the privilege of working with people who ‘are really passionate about research and teaching and who has access to it’.
