Dr Shirley Brook (BGU) ‘The Social Networks and Information Environment of Nineteenth Century Agricultural Improvement’

There was great zeal for ‘Improvement’ in nineteenth-century farming circles. Progress was fuelled and facilitated by the proliferation of farming publications and increasing opportunities for social exchange afforded not only by membership of agricultural societies but also attendance at their shows. The influence of such media on both the farmers and the landowners, whose activities shaped the rural landscape, will be considered in this talk.
