GuildHE Research Doctoral Festival 2024

April 16 @ 9:00 am - April 17 @ 4:30 pm

This exciting festival will take place on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 April, and we are delighted that it will be hosted at our member institution the University of Winchester. The festival is a two-day residential event for doctoral students and early stage researchers from across all GuildHE Research member institutions.

We have a brilliant programme of speakers lined up, including a keynote on creative research methods and a workshop on ethics from independent researcher Dr Helen Kara. We will also be joined by the British Academy for a session on SHAPE research careers, by Culture and Relationships Coach Lou Chiu who will run a workshop on allyship and activism through research, by UK Parliament’s Knowledge Exchange Unit for a session on working with policy and parliament, and by CaSE for a session on a people’s vision for R&D. There will also be lots of opportunities to hear from students about their own research, and for networking between participants, alumni, and speakers.

The festival aims to foster connections between and celebrate our community of PGRs, broaden participants’ horizons beyond their research, and provide them with the opportunity to learn from speakers and workshops that may otherwise not be available to them. The Doctoral Festival will explore themes including research development, impact, allyship and careers and skills development.

Places and registration

All GHER member institutions are offered two free places. A nominal fee of £150 will be charged to institutions for additional places. We leave the method of selecting students entirely at the discretion of institutions. Once the institution has allocated places, each student should fill in a booking form to secure their place. The full information has been circulated to Research Leads in member institutions.

Eligible participants

To accommodate the full diversity of our institutions, participants may be research students or where there are no current research students at the institution, potential PhD candidates and / or early stage researchers for whom the content is relevant.
