Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive of English Community Care Association (ECCA), has been appointed Visiting Professor of Social Care at Buckinghamshire New University, further strengthening  the University’s strategy of actively engaging with field experts.

Professor Green has had an extensive career in non-governmental organisation development in the UK and internationally. He is Chair of the International Longevity Centre and a trustee of the National Aids Trust; as well as being a member of the Secretary Of State for Health’s Stakeholder Board.

Prof Green said:

“I am delighted to link with those responsible for workforce development in Care Services at Bucks New University and am very much looking forward to supporting the University as a Visiting Professor.

“I feel my appointment strengthens the University’s engagement with the Independent Care sector whilst remaining the Chief Executive of ECCA, the largest representative body for independent social care services in the UK.”

Professor David Sines, Pro Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean for the Faculty of Society & Health at Bucks New University, said:

“It is no coincidence that Professor Green’s appointment comes at a time of great challenge in the sector. The requirement for multi-level care has never been greater given that residents in care homes and those living at home are likely to be suffering from a combination of social and health issues that often affect their physical and psychosocial health.

“The need to ‘upskill’ nursing professionals to deal with this complexity of needs is one that is totally understood by Bucks New University, which is at the cutting edge of this quantum shift in care services.

“Bucks New University is committed to engaging with acknowledged experts beyond the University’s boundaries because this enhances our currency and the relevance of our programmes and research. Without doubt, Martin Green’s experience and specialist expertise make him ideally qualified for the role of Visiting Professor.”

Prof Green is also a member of the Nursing and Care Quality Forum; a Board member of the National Institute for Health Research (School of Social Care); and a founder trustee of The National Skills Academy for Social Care. Martin Green writes and broadcasts extensively on social care issues and is on the editorial board of Community Care Market News.
